Words To Live By

The worst draft in the world is infinitely better than the best unwritten story.

Getting Started

Write a first paragraph to something.  Don't write any more than that.  Abandon the project after one paragraph.

You might find it cries out for a second paragraph.  If it does, well... okay, write that, too.

If you absolutely MUST write a third paragraph, go ahead.  And maybe another page or two.  But no more!  Stop writing!

Sometimes, telling yourself to stop is the best way to keep going.

  1. I haven't even gotten to that point yet. Mostly it's just yelling to myself: "FUCKING WRITE SOMETHING DOWN JESUS CHRIST IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE PERFECT." It's like I expect it to fall out of my head and onto the page in its nearly final form. Every once in a while, it does, but even then, I've been thinking about it for a while. I'm trying to make myself view that as a gift and not the normal way things operate.

Also, too, you should come back to SN. That wasn't our friend's first instance of drive-by douchery. It's like it's his schtick at this point. I haven't seen him post in days.

  2. Of late I've been starting stuff, then giving up after a sentence or two.

"Why bother?" I ask myself. And then there's just no reason at all.
